This fall, Veteran Rites invites veterans and their loved ones for caring distance nature exploration and education with Ed Dominguez.
Families, veterans, and seniors are strongly encouraged to join us in engaging and accessible nature exploration in King County.
Fridays 2 to 4:30 pm (Oct 23 Montlake Fill, Oct 30 Seward Park, Nov 6 Arboretum, Nov 13 Seahurst Park, Dec TBD Owl Prowl)
October 23 at the Montlake Fill
The Union Bay Natural Area, commonly referred to as the Montlake Fill, is an extensive natural area adjacent to Husky Stadium near the University of Washington. Nicknamed the The Fill, this onetime city dump has been converted into acres of grasslands, forested areas, ponds and extensive shoreline on Union Bay in Lake Washington. We will explore these diverse habitats with an eye for waterfowl, fall migrating birds, beaver and river otter evidence, and eagles and osprey. Time permitting, we can take the boardwalk trail through the adjacent Yesler Swamp to continue our exploration. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear good walking shoes, and have your eyes, ears, and curiosity ready for discovery and adventure!
